| Hidden costs of Web site ownership |
| Good Web sites are part of business and they can be successfully used to lower hidden costs, including the cost of Web site ownership. A simple review of Web site development and maintenance practices shows areas of potential cost savings. Examples demonstrate potential cost savings of over $1 million on 1000 documents through the use of a down-load rather than HTML mark-up. When extended to both the Internet and Intranet, this becomes over $2 million. When 150 changes a year are made on a three-page site (or equivalent), over $500,000 can be saved. Other examples include over $68,000 on a tender process for a Web site and over $10 million for the duplication of effort for 500 documents. |
