| Why our education system is failing us and our children? |
| Our education system is failing both us and our children. It is failing us because the necessary basics and life skills are not taught. The Department of Education spends enough to give every child in Australia about $10,000 per annum for an education and yet our education system fails us and our children. |
| |
| Proven, proven, proven. Education is the path to better health, lower crime, lifting people out of poverty, solving alcoholism and drugs and so much more. Education is the silver bullet for empowering people to live healthier, richer, satisfying and more rewarding lives. There are not many silver bullets in life, but education is one of them. |
| Yet, we are all part of a massive wrought. Many of us have been unwilling victims but some of us are, unfortunately, also unwitting perpetrators. We are told that if we become educated, that if we learn irrelevancies and we learn to sell our time, that by some process of "voodoo magic" we will all be rich, happy and successful. This is utter rubbish. Nothing could be further from the trueth. |
 |
| Many kids become disenfranchised from the system because it is not relevant. People then become trapped in a self sustaining circle of furstration, allienation, of useless punitive measures and declining personality. As we all know, this then spirals into greater societal problems and becomes self sustaining. |
| Yes you need to teach the basics like reading, writing and mathematics but whether you are a painter, a welder, a classical musician or an engineer, you need key skills including the ability to:- |
|
|
| This is what we need to teach and what people need to learn. Often they want to learn these. Some of the richest people and some of the most contended people in the world do not have degrees, nor a formal education. Rather they have been taught and posses these key skills. |
| Education may be expensive but the cost of ignorance is incalculable. For years we have spent millions on education and where has it got us: |
- Our universities are degree factories - they just turn out degrees. Students go heavily into debt just to get jobs waiting at tables. The ability to problem solve and independent thought are not valued. It is the mass production of cannon fodder for the modern age that is the go.
- TAFE - Industry training - They bare little or no resemblance to business and the saying "if you can not do it, you teach it" often applies.
- Secondary schools - they function as storage places for kids during the day.
- Child care - well you can not even get places.
- Teaching is nothing to do with education. It is about riot control, it is about catering to the lowest common denominator and compliance with silly rules.
- Specialist needs and adult education - in the English dictionary under the word "joke".
|
| Think things are bad, well they are not just bad, they are pathetic. We are at the stage now that few if any self respecting men will become a teacher because they will be presumed to be perverts and deviates. The problem is not us the people, though we allow the problem to grow, it is the criminal negligence of the Department of Education. |
| Yes more resources would help but we spend enough to give each child around $10,000 per annum. For this they could buy a better education. What is needed is radical change. One that sees the rolling back of the heavy yolk of the Department of Education. One that empowers teachers to teach. One that puts resources where they are needed. One that is driven through with a drive and passion to do what is smart and what is right. |
- We need to provide incentives for people to become teachers. You do a degree and teach for three years, we will heavily subsidies your tuition. All training should be tax deductible. We need incentives for highly skilled people in business and industry to spend time as teachers.
- We need to free up resources from administration and use them where they are needed. Stop arguing about who started the fire of Rome and who is going to put it out, let's put it out and rebuild.
- Training should be tax deductable. Employees should get dispensation for training staff.
- Kids now a days think differently. Dinosaurs like me have technology, the x-generation uses technology and the y-generation and younger expect technology. The 14-20 year olds process information differently, they learn differently, they communicate differently. How do we expect to teach properly when these changes are NOT even recognised by our esteemed Education Department.
- Forget small changes in the curriculum. We need massive changes. We need to teach the right things. We need to give people the core skills they need to empower their lives and above all we must stop defrauding ourselves and our kids of our futures.
- Let's move passed the myth that a degree will make you rich, happy and successful. Let's stop filling our café's with debt-ridden degrees waiting on tables. Let's empower them to fulfil their destinies.
- Teaching needs to be an honourable profession that is cherished and valued. Our schools and institutions should be palaces and temples to the betterment of humanity. Teachers should earn six figure salaries and compete for the right and privilege to teach.
|
| I appreciate that you have been victims of this monumental fraud that is education but I beseech you to be magnanimous and to put it behind you. Please do not let it continue. Look into your hearts; you know it is time to act: |
- It is time our schools became shrines and palaces to education and learning.
- It is time to teach life empowering skills.
- It is time we did the right thing for children and adults both now and in the future.
