I Know all this stuff, what's next?
Sick of life style gurus telling you the obvious. You know all this but still feel flat and lethargic. What do you do?
I was in the position that I knew all the stuff about goal setting, planning, time management etc. but it made no difference. I just could not get what I felt I was entitled too. I felt trapped, frustrated and I could not get passed the gate keepers. I realised It was not enough to know it, I had to realise it. I write this not to tell you what to do but to try and share an experience.
I don't know about you but when I was down I did not need another self-help guru or life style gurus telling me the obvious and saying how wonderful they were. I did not need another person telling me "if it doesn't kill you, it does you good" or "no gain without pain". I thought these guys were idiots and could did not understand where I was.
You know, I was right. Sure they had all the fortune cookie wisdom you could ever want but I found them to be totally useless. I still found myself trapped and frustrated. I could not get passed the gate keepers. I felt that my worth was not valued and that no matter what I did I could not get ahead. I kept looking for a recipe to follow and I did not know what winning looked like. Without this, I could not plan and work out a solution.
I got to the point that I could not give my time away for voluntary work. It was so frustrating. I just could not get passed the gate keepers. What I realised was, that I was talking to the wrong people. I needed to change my audience. I needed to find like minded people who understood and recognised things when it hit them. I needed to find people who wanted to react. They are there.
One of my biggest challenges was to know what I wanted to do. I found that this kept changing. I had lots of goals, many unachievable, but I had them. I found that what I was good and was passionate about was not what people wanted to know about. My hardest challenge was to define what it was I wanted to achieve. I found the following of use:
- Keep believing. You are here for a purpose and you have a destiny. You may not know what it is, we seldom do, but keep believing.
- Accept that you are not like others and stop trying to climb into the box to fit in. If you ever make it into the box, you'll probably not like it when you get there.
- Realise the limits and be grateful for what you have.
- Surround yourself with like minded people. Surround yourself with dynamic high concept people who share your views and values. You'll find they are all outside the box and that its nice outside the box.
- It is not personal. People often fear people who are different to them. You have a skill, use it.
- Change the habit. Stop doing what you that does not work. You have the ability to do things differently, do them.
- Do what you want to do. Take the risk, make the mistakes, ignore the mediocrity.

At some point it will come good. At some point it will come together. It is hard, it is frustrating, your spirits sag, you feel lost and depressed. All I can say is this, accepting what you have and valuing yourself was important to me.
You know this. You know that this is a process you need to go through and you know that only you can realise it. Only when you have learned what you need to know and be able to apply it will you be able to move on to the next stage of your life. For what it is worth you have our sympathy and moral support.
