Solving the Problem
Now that we know what the problem is and we have decided that we want to try and solve it, we can go ahead and solve it.

There is no magic to solving a problem. It is a simple step wise process that anyone can use. Yes we need to be motivated. Yes we need to know that problem is and yes we need to define the various elements of the problem. The key step is solving the problem.
We need to identify what we need to do to solve the problem and then commit to doing it. As you go through the exercise more steps maybe identified, issues change and needs are adjusted. Yes we adapt to meet these changes but the overall process and defining steps do not change. For a given problem:
  • List the five to ten main steps (or areas of activity) required to be compleated to solve a problem.
  • For each of the main steps (or areas of activity), list any further steps required.
  • List any key dependencies, i.e." X" must happen first so that "Y" can occur.
  • Estimate how long each step will take, who will do it, and if required, the cost.
  • Stop, reflect.
  • Then execute, adjusting to need as demands dictate.
Some steps may run in parallel and may not be sequential. Some steps may not be clear but do what you can. Above all, take the first step and go do it.
It is better to make progress and accept that mistakes will occur and needs will change, than to plan forever. Avoid falling into the trap of using planning as an excuse for inactivity or fear etc.
Address one problem at a time. Use proven pragmatic solutions within an overall strategic solution. Soon, problems will be resolved, progress will be made and many issues will drop by the wayside. The longest walk is done one step at a time, keeping your eye on the goal.
